Queensland
Abattoir Wastewater — Pond Dewatering
The Challenges
An abattoir’s wastewater treatment ponds held roughly 24,000 m³ of accumulated sludge in situ. The material had to be removed and the ponds returned to service.
Our Approach
Kontain geotextile dewatering tubes were laid out and pumped with pond sludge. Filtrate drained through the woven fabric and was managed on site while the solids stayed contained for handling.
Results
The sludge dewatered very well, consolidating to approximately 8,000 m³ of stackable dried cake — about a third of the original wet volume — ready for straightforward handling and disposal. The client was very satisfied with the outcome.
